Satellite System
Satellite Overview
Many stations / cable operators will receive a Satellite System consisting of a 1.2 meter satellite dish (antenna), LNB, non-penetrating mount and a small receiver. Generally one Satellite System will be provided to facilities containing more than one station, regardless of the number of individual EAS Systems in that facility. If the EAS System is at another location, such as the transmitter, then another Satellite System may be provided for that station. The audio output of the receiver is intended to be fed to an open monitor input on the EAS Systems. It shall not take the place of any required monitor assignments. Installation of the Satellite System is performed by the station / cable operator. Information is contained within this site to assist in the installation.
Satellite Equipment
The Satellite Dish (Antenna) is a Patriot 1.2m PTX Offset Antenna. This Antenna will mount on the Patriot PTX-NPR 300S Non Penetrating Roof Mount provided. Optionally, the antenna can be mounted on a 3 inch pipe instead of the Non-Penetrating Roof Mount. The Satellite Receiver is a SatStream 21521 FSK Satellite Receiver. This receiver provides an unbalanced output to feed the EAS System.
Installation
Installation should be straightforward. As with any digital signal, it is suggested a Spectrum Analyzer be utilized in order to align the Satellite Antenna. The SatStream Receiver must search for the signal, which can take a few minutes, and therefore is unsuitable for use in the alignment process. (See the SatStream manual for more details). The Satellite Antenna must point at AMC-5, which is a geostationary satellite at 79 degrees true West. Based on your location within New York State, the difference between true north and magnetic north will be between 14 and 15 degrees. While you will find the satellite if you are one degree off, do not expect to find it if you are looking at 79 degrees on your compass!
If you need assistance in the installation of the Satellite System, you should review the NYEAS.net Forum or you may contact us. If you do not have the resources to install the Satellite System, a local satellite dealer should be able to perform this for you. If you do not have a local satellite dealer.
Installation Details and Equipment Manuals
We have assembled an Installation Procedure to guide you through the installation process. Further, we includes copies of manuals and links to other sites to help in the installation process. The installation should take no more than one day from start to finish, excluding any site issues or complications.
System Tests
The EAS Encoder feeding the Satellite channel is set to perform a RWT each Thursday at 1:15pm. When you receive a test, please send an email to TestReceived@nyeas.net so that we know you are receiving tests. Thank you in advance for your help in confirming the operation of the system.
